    Bandsaw Advice....

I think record power do a guide attachment that fits the BS300e saw that enables you to use thin blades like that. Might be worth a look.

    Sourcing wood for turning

If you are nearby or passing it, it’d be well worth popping in to Yandles. The self selection timber and bowl blanks are extensive. If you just want different little scraps to practice on there are two big bins with bits for a couple of quid.

    The screw up fairy…

I don’t know if I didn’t explain that very well when I posted that, I’m edge jointing, I.e. long grain to long grain the Sapele boards to make the seat board. Do you mean a butt joint involving end grain? A lot of the books on the chairs e.g. Moser, Dunbar and Hill have some of the seat boards...

    The screw up fairy…

Milled down the Sapele for a Windsor seat. Edge joined it, nice bit of planing by hand, took my time. Clamped it up and all looked good. Next day popped the template on and sawed out the shape, feeling all good about it as it was looking nice. Middle glue joint fails as soon as I get in on the...

    How good are Howdens kitchens?

If I’m honest, they aren’t too bad. The kitchen units are of a decent standard, but the appliances they supply with the kitchen are a bit poo!

    Saw tooth bits

I’ll put in another vote for Famag. I can’t afford a full set yet, but the ones I have are great.

    Rutlands pillar drill

I have that Record Power drill, it’s a nice little drill. I wouldn’t use it for ultra precision engineering, but for general woodworking, joinery and chair making I’ve found it really capable. I can totally recommend Yandles, they are really helpful, great customer service etc… all round great...

    Yandles- 20% off weekend.

Popped down to Yandles to get some bits for a chair build. Didn’t realise that they had 20% off self selection timber, finished, abrasives, glue and books - winnner! Think it’s all this weekend. Thought I’d share on here as they had some pretty good value wood in, glad I took the credit card.

    Oddball screw size retailers

Wentin fasteners - Fasteners, Fixings, Screws & Tools | Wentin Fasteners Given them a ring a few times and they have a colossal stock of all different sizes and threads. Reasonably priced too. Winner.

    Radio for workshop

I’ve got the ubiquitous Makita site radio in my workshop. My other Pure dab started to play up because of the dust 😮. Very happy with the site radio.

I’ve got that grinder and the slow speed record one I’m looking at parting with in the next week or so. If you are interested, I’m in Wiltshire, not far from Bath.

Help needed on Band saw setup - Record Power Sabre 350

This! The RP blade that comes with the saw is poo at best. I thought I’d bought a faulty saw when I got mine, but changed totally with a tuff saws.

    Leaky Lathe?

This has all properly put my mind at rest. Thanks for all out posts and the detail you have gone into! If it leaks a little and that’s fine, nothing sinister as said above, it’s just it’s character, I can work with that!

    Leaky Lathe?

Thank you! That is just what I needed to know, thanks for the links too, that’s really helpful. I’ll have a look online on how to tighten it first see how it goes then look at the rebuild. Cheers!

    Leaky Lathe?

It’s not a euphemism, I’ve got a leaky lathe… I’ve bought a used Record Power CL3, one of the green ones with the little oil top up spout. Overall a lovely machine and quite the step up from my little Jet midi. I’ve dutifully been putting the RP oil in, not too much just a bit each time I use...

    Somerset Ash

Might be worth giving Valley Sawmills a call or look. They are near Frome so not a million miles from you. I get most of my Ash there and it’s all Somerset or Wilts timber, it would give you an idea of prices maybe. Either that or there is interesting timbers up on the Mendips…

    Reamer for chair sockets etc

I’m only just starting chair making, but I’ve been watching a very experienced and quite talented chair maker at my club. The round tenon but running to a tapered shoulder, exactly as you describe is what he has shown me. Looks to work really well. Think I feel some lathe work coming in my near...
