How to enthuse a 4 year old

Walking through my garage workshop my grandson stopped at the vice and said what’s this, so we put some wood in it and cut it up. Would love to kindle the spark , anyone got examples of what worked and at what age?

    Pergola Advice

Thanks for all the comments, very helpful. To clarify , I was always going to replace the joist with the same sizing due to aesthetics and will now look to add end brackets attached to the posts and also a steel bar across the middle , 1.5- 2m long and possibly 6mm thick. It may not last forever...

    Pergola Advice

Been tasked with replacing this 3.6m 47 x 150 joist. The sagging has occurred over 20 years ( not my work!) and I was considering attaching a metal bar to the inside face to add some strength along it’s length. Questions How long should that bar be on 3.6m span ? Is screwing it to the face...

    Sun damage to furniture

This is a piece of furniture my parents had made 20 years ago and as can be seen from the pictures it had suffered some sun damage. Is this repairable to the extent that the change in colour is less noticeable. It is American Black Walnut. Is it something a hobbyist could attempt or is it a...

    Wood movement

I made a box as a gift in my unheated workshop, all looked fine and brought it indoors. Couple of days later lid has warped slightly ( enough to brass me off) so that it is no longer flush with base. Obviously the change in humidity , annoying, but it’s wood so live with it. However I also made...

    Wood Identification Please

Came across this when clearing out my Dads garage. It is about 25mm thick 160 wide and was t&g’d. Possibly a floorboard off cut. Going to turn it into a keepsake box , or something, but would like to know what wood it is. Doesn’t feel particularly heavy. Tia.

    Who’s Making Marmalade?

Another for 2:1 sugar. Like others I am trying to reduce my sugar intake but sourdough, butter and homemade marmalade is just not worth giving up🤔. Been making it for 30+ years but I seem to be the only one in my family who likes it. I do force it in my grown up kids at Christmas in the form of...
