    What type of gouges?

So could I regrind the one on the right to have swept back wings? I wasn't sure as it has quite wide flats on the top.

    What type of gouges?

I bought a few lathe tools recently, but I'm unsure as to all of their correct usage. I'm pretty sure the one on the far left is a spindle gouge, but not sure if the other two are for spindles or bowls.

    Mystery Tool

Picked this up in a job lot of tools I bought recently, at first I thought it was a scraper without its blade, but now I'm not so sure. Any ideas?

    Advice sought for first lathe

Thanks everyone, if I went for the RP sc3 chuck, can it hold small items without extra jaws, i.e. are the 4 sliding jaws able to hold stuff on their own?

    Advice sought for first lathe

Thanks, can the standard jaws hold square stock? And would the lower rpm of the Record be useful at all?

    Advice sought for first lathe

I like to make my own tools, so my reason for getting a lathe is to enable me to do that, not to get into woodturning as such, however I may well join a club in future to learn more techniques etc.

    Advice sought for first lathe

I'm having trouble figuring out which of these have the best (most useful) spec, I'm going to be using it for small spindle type turning, I don't see myself getting into big bowl making or anything, I know there will be limitations with lathes this small. Record Power DML250 Speeds from...

These are the bits I used: Cutter holder in M8 size http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/A4-Stainless- ... 2749.l2649 Thumbwheel in M6 size http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brass-Knurled ... 2749.l2649 Both of these needed modifying to fit, the cutter holder needs the hole filed until it fits the cutter...

Only the iron is Veritas, the rest of the hardware is random bits from ebay, the shape of the toe and frog(is it still a frog on a router plane?) is inspired by the Veritas plane shape then I pulled out some wings for hand grips.

    Carboot finds

Yeah, there is a bit of flaking, not sure what to do about it really, I'll never be able to match it, was thinking of stripping the old finish and going for a waxed or oiled finish as I really prefer bare wood, but then I lose the originality, suggestions welcome...

My first real woodworking project, used a Veritas cutter and took some inspiration from the shape of their version.

That's what I had planned for it, keep a pilot drill in this one and will pick up another for a countersink (although probably not in as good condition), think it will be much easier than swapping bits in my electric drill.

    Carboot finds

Found two nice brass back saws, Tyzack & Sons 120 for £2 and a Henry Temple for £1, a never used Stanley 803 and Record 110 block plane for £13 and an adjustable drill bit for £1, not a bad Sunday really! :D
