    Record PT107 Fence Removal

Very true, it's a shame as the fence itself is good as is the guard but as a combination they make the guard a prime candidate for permanent removal. All I have done is remove the bolt/spacer and locknut that holds it on to the outfeed table and replaced it with a bit of 10mm stud bar and a hand...

    Record PT107 Fence Removal

I've modified the guard arm so it can be removed and replaced quickly to allow the fence to come out of its slide. The guard and the fence can now be removed and replaced in about 15 seconds without tools without affecting the function in any way. Looks like it was just a really bad design (or a...

    Record PT107 Fence Removal

I bought a Record PT107 a few months ago but until today I haven't had the chance to use it. To lift the tables to convert to thicknessing the instructions say "remove the fence first". Am I being a complete silly person here but how does one remove the fence without getting out allen keys and removing...

    Record WG200

I'm in the process of setting up a new workshop after a long break from cabinetmaking. I was for most of my working life a professional cabinetmaker but I fancied a change a few years ago. In our workshops we had a Tormek2000 which was used quite hard probably daily for about 15 years, it had a...

    Which random orbit sander?

About 25 years ago I bought a top of the line Bosch RO sander, cost something like £200, it was back in the dealer getting a warranty repair every other week (seriously). A friend recommended a Festo RO150E which cost a massive £398 back then, it got hammered to death every day in our busy shop...

    Table saw advice

The Bosch GTS 10XS arrived yesterday but I have only unpacked it today. After watching youtube videos of peoples reviews the first thing I did was checked the alignment of everything and thankfully it's good to 0.1mm which is plenty good enough. I've not actually switched it on yet, I've had a...

How good are the budget Mortisers

There's probably a bit more to it than that  but for non commercial use it would be a fair argument in my book. Yes there are exceptions but a morticer is only a glorified pillar drill with a fancy vice

How good are the budget Mortisers

For light use the cheaper ones are fine, not as convenient maybe but they do a very similar job. Worth investing in decent chisels above budget ones IMO but even that depends on usage. It's a bit like the table saw question, what's the difference between a Wadkin 10" AGS and the Axminster TS250?

    Table Saw

I had a 10" AGS, it was completely rebuilt, everything reground and new bearings. It was a complete joy to use and would work had all day everyday without breaking a sweat. With the right blade in good condition it was capable of superb work, if I had the space I would buy one for the workshop...

    Table saw advice

I had a good look at the Dewalt that appeared at work today, it turned out to be the 745 not the 7491RS, even so it looked more than up to the job I would ask of it. The tilt mechanism if you can call it that was quite smooth and easy to adjust but maybe not as accurately as you can with a...

There seems to be this large piece of the fence guide to the left hand side, more so than the right. With the fence to its left most position what is the maximum width of cut as standard?

    Table saw advice

But how much room is there, the fence seems to be restricted to the left

    Table saw advice

Definitely still stressing over this choice. I'm really starting to think a full size cabinet saw is 100% out of the question, just too big physically for the space I have without compromising bench working space and that's something I won't do, I hate being cramped while working, I'm not in...

    Bench Chisels Set

I'm a fan of the Japanese chisels, they hold an edge incredibly well as long as you don't twist or lever them in use otherwise they will chip badly. All that needs doing with them is to seat the metal ferrule into the handle and pien the wood over the top to keep it on. I hollow grind the bevel...

    Table saw advice

I haven't seen the Sheppach without the sliding table, anyone got a link to one, I spent ages looking earlier but I couldn't find one. Kitty, they made fair machines didn't they, I had a small bandsaw of theirs at home years ago, I quite liked it if I remember

200 is a bit small for me, I have a few 10" blades I'd like to reuse too but thanks

    Table saw advice

It looks like it would be a bit of a pain. I'm starting to think that the AW10BSB with the standard side table and no rear table might well be the best option for me. At 184Kg it will be very heavy to pull out and turn 90 degrees every time I want to use it which it the huge attraction of a site...
