    Stolen tools news article

This raid was on a site very close to us (about 3 miles away). It was long overdue according to folk in Cranbrook. There are many more photos of what was found there - quite shocking. Below is only part of it. FWIW, we've always found the police around here to be very helpful.

    Which dominos to buy?

Decided to go Trend via Toolstation. Getting a variety of 8mm & 10mm beech dominos, but Trend don't seem to do 12mm... they do 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm & 10mm "only". I do have a 12mm cutter for the DF700 but only use it on big stuff, like garden benches, which I'm not making at the moment...

Armouring internet cable under grave driveway

Don't forget to lay a warning tape over the length; "cable below"... I believe the argumentative poster simply doesn't understand WiFi, FTTP and VoIP or is trolling. FTTP terminates in the customer premises at an optical network termination (ONT) box which needs permanent power - there may be...

Record Power BS350S Bandsaw Modifications - Part 1: Blade Guide Upgrade Using Rikon Tool-Less Kit

I've done this too plus the Sabre fence upgrade. Both very worth while. Don't be put off by the cutting needed for the guides - it's really not that difficult. The whole job took me a couple of hours, plus a bit for making the table & new fence square to the blade again. Also, get rid of the...

    Battery compatibility

It's not as simple as a rip-off. It's non-trivial and costs a lot to do the design, testing and manufacturing of these packs, especially in an unforgiving industrial environment. As I'm an electronic design engineer, I've always had an interest in taking stuff apart to see how it's made. I've...

    Battery compatibility

Do please avoid the cheap so-called compatible battery packs on eBay/Amazon/Banggood/AliExpress etc. They do not have anything like the same protection circuitry as the original stuff, nor anything like the quoted capacity. There's lots on the web about the dangers of these units. Caveat emptor!

    Joke Thread 4

Not exactly. The joke, such as it is, hinges not just on the nursery rhyme, but on the fact that Arby's is "famous" for serving roast beef sandwiches... you need both parts for it to be hysterically funny... allegedly... There's also the faint irony of the rhyme being about pigs and the joke...

    Joke Thread 4

Extremely tenuous & USA-centric as you need to know about fast food outlets which anybody with sensible eating habits would avoid. For the record, the only reason I know what this cartoon is about is because I used to live in North America - there are very few of these in the UK.

    Flattening a small door...

Thanks for the comments, however just to clarify: for the past 10 years this has been in the hall of our eco house, which we run quite cool - it's a really constant environment. There is no damp at all and no local heat source. As far back as I can remember (35 years) the door has always been...

    Flattening a small door...

The back panel. The moulding is warped too - it sat in my wife's parents farm kitchen for 20-30 years and frankly may have been warped even before then. Originally it came from my wife's grandmother in Cornwall...

    Flattening a small door...

We have a family piece of pre-WW2 Waring & Gillow furniture - a nice, small, dark wood faux-jacobean dresser. The top small door is warped (see photos) - it's about 45cm wide x 30cm tall and maybe 15mm thick in the middle. The axis of the warp is horizontal and the max displacement is about...

    Joke Thread 4

Having spent some time living in the Middle East and in deserts/up mountains, a small but amusing factoid is that the Arabic for "desert" is "sahra" (in phonetic English), and that for "deserts" is "alsahari" or "sahara"! Deserts are often full of life and, IMHO, indescribably beautiful. One...
