    Nutool MT question

Hi all, Been playing with my Nutool NWL-37, not really made anything at all just trying and get the hang of getting things round and parallel. I fancy having a go at making some pens, but I can't find out what size taper the lathe has - obviously I need to know this in order to get the correct...

    plane storage question

Hi everyone. I'm sure there must be a sensible answer to this but it is escaping me. I've often been told that I should rest my planes on their side on the bench. Yet, whenever I look at peoples' storage solutions planes are 99% of the time stored resting on the sole. Why is there a difference...

    masks etc

hi all. what masks do people wear when turning. is something like the airace with clip on shield good enough ? or do you really need something akin to the airshield ?

    new toy.

Hi all, Found this on ebay and couldn't resist - it was within the meager budget I have at the moment. I think I've got a decent deal but not sure really - so any comments are welcomed. Photos aren't great as the only bench with any empty space on it had the sun shining straight in through the...

    arggghh

don't know why but I couldn't resist these. Absolutely no idea if they're any good or not. Just to send payment then work out how to get the things to me......

    which jointer.

I'm in the market for a No7 (or equivalent). Got a couple of quid spare so though I'd treat myself. Options: Clifton No 7, LN 7 1/2 LA jointer, LV LA jointer. All seem to be around the same price - give or take. Has anyone any views on the difference between them.

    Mortiser bed

Not sure whether this should be in here or the projects bit. I was using my cheapo Aldi mortiser yesterday and got thinking it would be a lot quicker/easier with an adjustable bed. Now am I thinking a bit too simply here, or would it be quite easy to make one. 4 sliding dovetails (2 for each...

    What do I actually need.

Hi all you turners. I quite fancy getting a lathe - but don't have even the slightest clue what I need. I envisage that it'll be used mainly for things like pens, knobs, perhaps the odd bowl. I can't see myself needing anything big - ie I'm unlikely to be trying anything more than 12" long. Are...

    DW733 extraction

Hi, I've picked up a cheap 2nd hand DW733 but it appears not to have the dust extraction hood. Can anyone who has one of these take some pics of the hood for me so I can fabricate one. Jon

    T11 collets

Hi all, I've got a few different collets for my T11 but can't for the life of me work out how to get the nut off the one that's currently in there so I can change to a different collet. Any pointers ??

    TS riving knife.

Hi all, Quick question on riving knifes. Is there any reason why a riving knife needs to protrude above the top of the blade ? Also, how do you go about cutting a zero insert when the riving knife raises with the blade ?

irwin quick grip XP clamp question

Hi, I picked up a couple of these in my local shop. IIRC they were £29.99 and buy one get one free - seemed a good deal to me. Not sure of the capacity but I'd imagine 12" or 18". The clamps seem to work pretty well, grip well and you seem to be able to apply plenty of pressure. One problem...

PV and other alternative energy sources.

Ok as suggested here's another thread to continue the discussion in. For me I'm all in favour of alternative energy sources. PV can work in the UK - even when it's cloudy. BUT and it's a bloody BIG BUT, you would need to have a lot of them to make you independant of the grid. I've not read up...

    For Sale. Fox f22-564-200 p/t

Hi all, I have for sale my Fox f22-564-200. It's similar to the 150 version just wider (8" as opposed to 6"). I thought I'd post it on here before putting it on fleabay. I'm looking for around £75 for it + delivery. I estimate the weight to be about 30Kg so delivery wouldn't be horrendously...

Argh, you lot have a lot to answer for.

I spotted this on fleabay and just couldn't resist - and I've no bloody idea why ??? swmbo asked for a list of what I wanted for Xmas - there were more planes on there than anything else. I can't imagine that I'll actually get any of them, but fingers cross money (or permission) will be...

Jewelry chest + resawing some Oak (UPDATED)

Hi All, I'm in the process of making a jewelry chest for swmbo for xmas. It'll be approx 200x140x140mm with 3 drawers. I've not really draw this out as such and the size of the drawers will be measured from the size of the resulting carcase. The carcase and drawer fronts will be cherry. [NOTE]...

board widths (jewelry box + general)

Hi, Tomorrow I start setting out my boards for a small jewelry chest - now I've tidied the shop enough to actually see some boards :) The actual chest is going to be 220x140x140 mm - so quite small (or I think so). What I'm not sure of is what thickness to make the actual wood. I'm thinking...
