    Lilac wood

Splits badly when drying and often has a spiral grain. Some sources on the net show it with an almost olive like grain but in 30+ years of gardening I've only ever seen it be a pale and uninteresting wood. Apparently easy to turn, probably you'd get some pen blanks from it

    A sad donation.

What a pity his family cannot appreciate what he went through. As we lose the people who remember it seems we edge ever closer to repeating the same folly. Who will stand up as they did? Late stepfather was on landing craft out of Poole, rarely spoke of what happened but I am still astounded...

Given the expression 'cross bread' might be more likely

    Unpaving

Have a dig around the patio edges with a trowel, if the slabs are properly haunched with mortar then it's a fair bet they are either on a continuous bed over a 'hardcore' base, or possibly laid on dry mix over sub base then pointed. The first is a right pain to take up, the second not so bad...

Would you have enough depth to use barrel hinges and a magnetic catch? That way nothing is seen on the surface and won't detract from the excellent surface finish. Iirc the subject of box hardware came up a while ago. There's a box maker who also supplies really good hardware but can't remember...

    Wildflower seeds / garden

Old flower meadows were mostly cut for hay, the process of cutting, drying, raking and gathering allowed the flower seeds to ripen and fall in the field before the hay was carted. The last place I was at had a wild flower meadow that was cut in late June, once seed had set, with an Allen scythe...

Holzmann TS200 or Bosch gts 10xc

Should add I'm looking at cutting small drawer and box components, with the occasional bit of ripping 4x2 to size. No need to handle large sheets as they can be broken down with a track saw, but would like to produce accurate repeatable parts

Holzmann TS200 or Bosch gts 10xc

Hi, looking to replace a very old Axminster hobby table saw and wondered which of the two above people would go for? Much as I like the look of old iron machines I have enough projects in the pipeline already. Space is not a problem for either of these, although I guess some sort of bench...

What is the safest way to plank a small log?

The joys of converting your own timber 😄 Colours can be fantastic, especially the stone fruits/prunus
