Electrical diagram software ¦¦ Open Source?

You are likely to find it quicker and easier to hand-draw the diagram. Free software that is easy to use includes Fritzing, which may also be most appropriate to you use. More complex software includes the geda suite of tools, free (but only in cost) are the basic versions of DesignSpark and...

    Interesting

Landed in my inbox. I know some of you are keen on Japanese tools so I thought I'd share. https://www.instructables.com/The-Art-of-Setting-Up-a-Japanese-Hand-Plane-Kanna/

    Parkside flat bits

Hoping this is useful to somebody. Bought a set of flat bits from Lidl last year, got round to to using one today. Gave it quite a hammering counter-boring bolt holes in soggy sleepers, 16x 25mm holes 33mm(ish) deep. So, the tips of the spurs are gone, the edges weren't great and are now...

    Hall Effect

Can't fault your drawing - perfectly clear, which is all that is needed :)

    Hall Effect

Agreed. The motor will generate interference because it's switching a lot of current, very fast, through some significant inductors - so you get significant back-EMF. So it's worth shielding the power and sensor wires from each other, even if you only (carefully!) wrap some foil around each set...

    Hall Effect

My experiments with optical sensing showed that it can be very sensitive to vibration so you get false counts. But then, I was making a very vibratey thing. Also susceptible to dirt and whatnot in the encoder wheel. I think the hall sensor would provide inherent immunity to these issues before...

    Hall Effect

I was going to suggest that if there's space, attach the magnet to the spindle. But looks like you've worked it out now. Suggest fitting a counterweight though. Or several. At 1000's or even 100's of rpm that's going to be pulling on your acrylic ring until the glue fails. Also an extra...

    Speed Awareness Course

On the subject of middle lane hogs, I thought a fine had been introduced a few years ago. And there you go, mentioned in a post I now can't find. And yet it seems even more people are doing it than ever before. What's the point of the fine if it it's never actually enforced. They are a royal...

    Speed Awareness Course

Nah-nerr! I've done 4! The last one was online and it was actually really good. If my first one had been like that maybe I wouldn't have needed 3 more... It's a bit like the recovering alcoholics. Clean for 2 years now....

    Speed Awareness Course

Leicester is made out of traffic lights. This is why drivers are so aggressive and impatient there. Well, that's my theory. The planners obviously thought the solution to problems caused by traffic lights is, more traffic lights! So you end up not being able to move for the effing things...

Can you make a DC motor run more quietly?

It also occurs to me that you can vary the speed of a synchronous motor (or any induction motor for that matter) by adjusting the frequency of it's supply. You would need a split DC supply, square wave generator and half bridge to do this. You can get low voltage versions of these motors so 12v...

Can you make a DC motor run more quietly?

There are slow AC motors. It's called a synchronous motor. Used for rotating the table in a microwave, running the timer in an older type washing machine, things like that. They are locked to the mains frequency so as accurate as that is (+/- 5% I think). I have a few but probably not the speed...
