Hi Rob…
it maybe just a chemical reaction….the wool would be fine…pardon the pun!
don’t forget the natural substances in the wood grain…
science is a wonderful thing…
Hi Rob…
it maybe a reaction from the wool….I know if you use vinegar and steel wool it can turn wood to an ebony colour…
so possibly some sort of acid in the wax?

I looked at this when it came out….I thought it was complete overkill…and a waste of resources. A typical graduate idea…clever but totally not needed.
surely wood turners could make up wooden collars from there offcuts….???
Hiyas.. if I were you I would contact Axminster..I would suspect that is not HSS…more likely a very bad batch of Chinese material…I’ve never seen anything blued by contact with wood..
can you file the steel with a normal file?…. It should slide over the surface…..
Hey!!!!! I’ve still got my two…one is fitted with cross head/Phillips and the other a slot driver…
totally agree about the dangers of using them, especially around windows… lol.
think they are just one of those quirky tools to hang on too and just say you have one because you can.
