I'm considering a freud combination blade (LP30M) for mainly ripping 2" exotic hardwoods, would a dedicated ripping blade leave noticeably better finish?... I like the thought of a dual purpose blade, but not if it's going to leave me with more work!

Chuck a good handful on the barbie, really gives a great flavor. Some people soak them but I find this isn't necessary if you put plenty on and the charcoal isn't too hot (past it's best is best), but they will go up eventually so keep your tongs handy - even better if you have a BBQ with a lid...

As I tend to use exotics I have very limited knowledge of native woods. I'm looking for some nice white wood suitable for carving, it doesn't have to be native but it need to be a white as possible and available in nice sized lumps. I've used Holly & Hornbeam in the past - lovely woods to work...
