One of my landing spindles has been cracked halfway down its length and I need to get it out in order to make a repair. Can anyone advise as to how the top and bottom are fixed. Would they be simply nailed or might they be on pegs/dowels? The house is 1905 Edwardian.
The concrete blocks are cemented upon a reinforced concrete base/pad. It was designed so as to take a Massey Ferguson 135 plus other lighter machinery and the inevitable 'stuff'
Consider pitching the roof at a greater angle. In my opinion it will look better, shed water better, give you a better feeling inside and greater scope within. Check planning though as I think anything more than 3m at the tallest would require planning, unless of course for some other reason...
I'm 98 and still walk 5 miles each day. On a Sunday I cycle 15 miles to my daughters for lunch and then cycle home again. Every month I try to go swimming at least once a fortnight and generally clock up 50 lengths. When I'm not gardening I also help my son in his landscaping business...

My brother was a cabinet maker for Heals of Tottenham Court Road and worked on some very prestigious pieces including items for the Royal Family. He also represented Great Britain in the cabinet making Olympics many years ago. My father was a carpenter/joiner all his life and made his living...
Them brass jobbies from Screwfix, to my mind, are not upto scratch in terms of high quality. You take a proper old screw and its colour is like 'rose gold' not bright and shiny. Nettlefords were the boys to go to or perhaps a yacht chandlery if you are near the sea/coast.
I hesitate in this company to say I was an estate agent for just over 30 years and I agree with you entirely. Many times in recent years I have reminded people that current rates are silly low and they don't know how lucky they are. When they were high in the mid 80's I seem to remember my...
