    Building a deck

Cheers for that Paul. Stainless steel and even the green phosphate is probably going to be above my budget I reckon. I may take a risk with the zinc plated fixings. I do live in Whitburn, though it isn't right on the coast, maybe inland by half a mile or so, if that's going to make any...

    Building a deck

Hi again Paul. It did cross my mind to use threaded bar and Toolstation seem to have a good price on it. M10X1M lengths - £2.05, Nylon Lock Nut M10X50 pack - £2.06 Heavy Washer M10X100 pack - £2.48 Is 'zinc plated' ok to use on decking? I ask because there seems to be a big price difference...

    Building a deck

Hi Paul Thanks for the reply mate. Can you remember what size coach screws you used an how many in each post? Toolstation sell them up to M10X150 (exterior), though at £19.33 for 10, I find them quite expensive. They also sell exterior coach bolts, nut and washers M10X160 at £12.95 for 10 or...

    Building a deck

Ah, I've just learned that 'regularised' means the timber is of consistent dimensions, so hopefully all of the lengths will be straight and bow free. Was going to go for 47x150x3600mm at £9.47 a length, which looks like the cheapest around.

    Building a deck

Hi there No skills. Thanks a lot for the advice, really appreciate it. Yeah I agree about the railings spacing. I originally drew it out with an extra post down the left hand side and another along the front. Giving me 4 down each side and 5 along the front. After looking on youtube, the...

    Building a deck

Cheers for that No skills and rafezetter. Haha and yes No skills i'm really bad for over thinking things  Ok so ive done a plan of the framework, support posts and rail posts. Can you guys tell me if this looks ok? The deck is 4.5m x 3.5m. The squares with x in them are the support...

    Building a deck

Thanks for that No skills. I think i'm going to sandwich in all of the rail posts so as, like you say, reducing the movement as much as possible. Yeah, I've just been looking around again there on various forums/sites and there seems to be mixed opinion on the slope. Some saying that the...

    Building a deck

Ok so I've just read that it doesn't really need to be sloped as the gaps in the boards do a good enough job. I'd rather not slope it to be honest. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Building a deck

xy - I'm planning on fixing the rail posts to the underframe and then up through the deck. The base rail will be raised a few inches from the deck boards to allow for drainage and cleaning. I'm about to plan/draw it all out over the weekend. I would have liked to have started work on it by now...

    Building a deck

Thanks for that Brentingby. Ok mate i'll take that into account when i'm building and make sure all the awkward areas are done as I go along. Brentingby, Paul200 - I was thinking about using those power coated aluminium tubes with hidden fittings for the railings, though I cant seem to find...

    Building a deck

Hi guys. Thanks again for the replies and thanks for the video Brentingby, it's much appreciated. Brentingby - That could be an idea about the mitred edge. I'll have a look around online and see how others have done their edges for a better idea of how it will look. The easiest way is to just...

    Building a deck

Thanks for the reply Brentingby If I were to do it this way, would water get trapped in between the framework and skirting? I was thinking that if the deck boards were overhanging the skirting slightly, the rainwater would drip off and not get trapped..? Also, thinking about - trying to lay...

    Building a deck

Hi guys I'm planning on building a deck in the near future and I was hoping you guys could give me some advice and maybe help me out with some questions along the way. The deck will be around 4.8m x 3.6m and it'll be fully railed with a gate, to keep the kiddies in :) Built on a slope and...

    Shed build

Ok so I've ordered 4 new rolls of felt (not torch on felt), some clout nails and a 5L tin of blackjack felt adhesive. The felt is just the 2 for £30 iko fine mineral stuff that Wickes are selling. I'm off work for two weeks in a weeks time and plan on eventually getting this roof finished. Can...
