Thanks for your comments. I did give the screw another WD40/blow torch cycle and this proved successful so I have not only fully stripped the vice but completed its cleaning and re-assemble. Photos attached.
I’m sure if you wire brush that soak it in a solvent of your choice then warm it with a blowtorch a good screwdriver will have that out

Have tried both...........
Hi,
I'm restoring an unused but rusty Record 52 1/2 vice, it's the one designed in the 1940s. The quick-release bar fixing screw is seized and I will need to drill it out if I'm to remove the various associated parts for cleaning (but will need a new one prior to doing so). Does anyone know...
Thank you for the replies.
I was never going to return the chisels just surprised at the degree of skew present (and wanted feedback from those with more experience). If they are going to be ground I suppose I would have expected then to be reasonably square.
So I sorted them out firstly...
Having just received the 10 piece set of Ashley Iles Butt Chisels, a quick visual look at them shows that the all the wider ones have been ground with a skew, the worst case being around 1mm. Whilst I expected to spend some time preparing the tools, I would have thought the manufacture would...
Good Morning,
What finish did Stanley use on the knobs and handles to their hand tools? I recently stripped the two knobs from a hand router as the finish had cracked; the underlying wood was not stained. I am keen to use an original product rather than a stain/oil for example. I have tried a...
Unless I have missed something, there only appears to be Digital issue of the magazine available (something I am not keen on ditto downloaded music!). Could someone point me in the right direction as I would like to give the magazine a read.
Thanks,
Karl
I download and inatalled Fusion 360 without issue. I'm classed as a private user so have free use of the softwear.
Just need to get started now...............................
Thanks again for the suggestions. And I am enjoying the 2D vis 3D discussion!

Many thanks for the suggestion, it is appreciated.
As I am starting from scratch I think the Fusion 360 is the one I will try; FreeCad is my second option. Ollie, you mentioned it is free to use, is this with a student licence?

Good Morning,
For those that draw mechanical parts via a computer, what software package would you recommend? I would prefere a free one as I will only be making limited use of such. I have used AutoCad quite a while ago so am not a complete novice.
Thank you,
Karl
