    Aldi nail gun

Bought this today. It's not something for everyday use. Tried it out nailing 15mm mdf skirting to a softwood stud and works a treat with the supplied 50mm nails. Tried it with some 35mm 18g nails I use with another gun and it's fine with them too.

Which course, Paul Sellers or Peter Sefton

Skipdriver, I'm no Paul Sellers fanboy, but do you know that he has two pieces of furniture in the Whitehouse? Just outside the Oval Office. Maybe that's why he's been called a Master Craftsman :D The stuff he does on Youtube is mainly for getting people started off in woodworking. He does...

    The Lidl plunge saw

After reading the above I bought the same blade. But!!!!! It's too thin to work on my saw :o However, a minutes work with the arbor washer on a diamond plate and it's fine now. Nice smooth cuts now. :D

Regarding Victorian stopped chamfer skirting boards

I did loads of these stopped chamfers on some exterior woodwork last summer. I used a big 45 deg router bit and cut the stopped part with a chisel using a little guide as described in the following link...

    georgian sash windows

I was getting a quote for some DG units at a place in Edinburgh today. They do a thin DG unit with a 7mm sightline for historic/listed/conservation areas. That might help :duno: Also, at another place, saw a modern style timber sash window with 24mm thick DG units and 24mm wide through...

    georgian sash windows

I know that one of the big sash window makers in Edinburgh makes their double glazed Georgian sashes with 27mm wide astragals and uses 4-6-4 DG units. Also, my neighbour has recently had some of his 6 over 1 sash windows replaced. I think they have wider astragals but don't look too bad from...

    Metabo HC260 Changing Blades

I've got the older Elektra Beckum version of this. I usually check that the infeed and outfeed tables are both flat (coplanar?) by setting them to the same height and putting a 4ft straight edge across them. Then adjust the little grub screws on the outfeed table if required. Check it...

    cabinet hinges for 9mm mdf

18V Brushless Impact Driver - Dewalt or Makita?

I've had the Makita for over 5 years. Love it. It's so light, but powerful. Original battery is still going fine.

Chisels - how low can you go?

I bought a set of cheap chisels for a few pounds. They had clear plastic handles which, when left out in the sun, went all soft and wobbly  Anyway, they sharpened up nicely and were used repairing old woodwork full of nails. Every chisel found a nail.(as expected). Job done, now thrown...

    What's this joint called?

Not a townhouse but a detached sandstone villa. Three gables and 2 dormers all have same hammer beam truss design and should look something like this sketch. All that exposed wood not great in the wet Scottish climate! :)
