| I've only been in the building trade for three years and I'm snowed under with work due to people doing jobs like this. For every one good builder there's 20 duffers..
I can't believe you handed cash over for that job... |

Last year, I spent some time trying to find a fine filter cartridge that would fit my ADE1200 but such a thing doesn't exist. Even the filters for the 'identical' models (Record CX600) are of a totally different diameter.
My long term solution would be to house it in a shed outside or, to fit a home-made air filter in the workshop. With a cartridge filter, you do lose some efficiency in airflow although, I'm sure others will tell me this amount is negligible.
If I was running a business from here, I'm sure the HSE regs. are pretty strict on fumes in the workshop (you're not even allowed to store them in the same space as all your machinery! ). |

| I wouldn't worry to much about Static Explosions need a good ignition source an a light isn't the best.
Thought about getting a fine filter for your extractor? I'm going to get one for me smaller one its only £80. |

Thanks, James. I cannot claim any originality as the table 'mechanism' is of a traditional design. I did manage to add my own touches in a few places. Thankfully, I don't have to spend too much time running people around any more, which is why I was able to press on with this, towards the end of the build.
Thanks for the tip on those 3M masks although, I still have a fear that, with all the fumes in the air, I may one day flip on a light switch and... KA-BOOM!
I don't do a lot of spraying so, I won't consider it to be a major issue right now. Just realised that I have again forgotten to photograph the chair I'm designing at college . Hopefully, I'll have some photos of the mock-up for you all this time next week. |

| That table is brilliant! Seems to have almost jumped our of nowhere, one minute you were making small progress then it was done!
About the lacquer, I used a lot of it recently, (5 Litres I think it was) and I used a 3M 6000 mask with vapour filters which all cost me less than £30 delivered an I couldn't smell a thing. |

Hi Adam and thanks for your reply.
That's not a bad idea, I just don't think it would be ideal in my small workshop. Most of my machinery is mounted on individual cabinets so that I can move them around when necessary. Overhead, I plan to add some more shelves (mainly for timber storage) once I've done a few other jobs first.
I currently have my mortiser and disc sander sat on top of a chest freezer. It's empty and serves it's purpose as a 'worktop'. The only thing I miss here is storage space below. Sadly, mum wouldn't let me sell it. That would be one area where I would like to have some cabinets...
Doors are a real pain in a workshop of this size so, they'd have to go without. My router table lives below my mitre saw and, when I take my regular trip to the top tomorrow morning, I think I'm going to rip those doors off my mitre saw station - they really do only get in the way!!
My biggest problem right now is wood storage, above all else. |

| Evening Olly
Hope all is well
Have you thought about having a work surface running around the side and back of your garage with cabinets underneath/overhead?
Just thought it may get rid of some clutter.

Hi Boz and thanks for that.
Another tip I've received is to set the drill so that the top of the pulleys are level with your eyeline... The most important thing seems to be that you are able to look down on and apply downward pressure to the workpiece. I'll probably screw some scraps of pine together to stand on and find a height that suits me.
One thing I forgot to add in the latest posting...
My new mortiser came without an allen key so, I will need to get one. Preferably, I'd like a spring-loaded one [do you have to ask why?! ] - does anyone know where you can buy them? I couldn't see them in the Tilgear catalogue when I looked recently. |
