Ebony stain

hi, I recently posted about a bench I finished.

But the stain put on was a black ebony stain, little bit shiny for my tastes.

So I tried to sand it back a little with a fine grit - 180 I think.

But leaves behind light scratches. Is there a way to cover them up? a wax rubbed in?

180 is not really fine, try going up to 240 or even higher, making sure you sand with the grain.
