Can anyone tell me what this is? If you open in paint and increase the pixel size to 2000 you get a clear close up....

It's a Yule Log from a Christmas Tree.

Hard to tell, but could be ash.

Ash looks a good candidate. Can I ask why and where you have seen it?

Its meant to have a high chocolate content

It is probably one of those unknown timbers used in manufacture abroad but not imported as a timber, only in products.
