Ok not sure this is really wood working. One of my colleagues is looking to do some decking. He is looking at some concrete blocks that take a 4x2" joist to make the base. How far apart should he have the centres from each other?

He's read somewhere that says 400mm but the things are 280mm wide so that seems ridiculous to me. If you were doing a standard deck with posts concreted in how far apart would you put them?

Thanks in advance.

I think my posts are 1m centres
not had an issue so far 6yrs later
no bounce no sag
my posts are 4x4 with 4x2 "straps" either side

I am sure it is woodworking..it is not all about fine furniture

I know its not a deck, but I made a base for the daughters play house out of 4x2 and its supported on normal size engineering bricks at 900mm centres (or there abouts, some points its closer than that). Not a hint of movement with my calibrated body jumping on it
