Hello,
Just joined this site and am wondering if I can get some feedback on variable speed motor for a Sorby RS3
lathe. Thanks in advance for any help.

:)

What kind of feedback are you Looking for? I have a sorby lathe with variable speed (can't remember which model). Had it for around 20 years I think. The control box went west after about 4 or 5 years, but was replaced at cost. As far as I remember, it's a big DC lump. Not going out in the cold this late to check!

Hi Nick
I am looking a standard lathe motor for a variable speed one - I contacted Sorby who gave me name of a motor company (no luck there
) I have contacted speed genie (very messy as they are saying I have to reduce pulley dia to 15mm. Do you know of anywhere I can just buy a motor that will just bolt on ?
Regards,
Terry

Hi terry,
I think you'll be very lucky to get an off-the-shelf solution.

The Speed Genie would be a 3-phase variable speed conversion I think whereas the Sorby lathe was fitted with a cheaper DC variable speed motor.
