Hi my farther in law as just bought a lathe and i was wondering what wood should he practice on ? The council have been cutting a few tree down by us and was wondering if i should get a few blocks of wood from the tree they have cut down

you should. Give it 2 months and you'll be picking up every stray bit of wood you come across. Not to put too fine a point on it but I carry a chainsaw in my boot most of the time

How big a block of wood depends on your lathe i suppose lol
