Just got this load of wood from a friend know for £40 no idea what wood I have got, can recognize some of them :mrgreen: :oops:

It could be boxwood - the very best wood for hard wearing parts of tools, handles, threaded boxes and suchlike.

I reckon it's either pippy oak or pippy elm - difficult to differentiate without a better photo

I may be teaching you to suck eggs but have you tried asking your friend what wood they are?
Looks like some Yew logs rear right though
 
I will say with my usual certainty in such topics that I haven't got a bl@@dy clue.
I like it though.

afraid i can't he died some time ago :( got the wood from his wife as she was clearing out the work shop,
