Surely though, it's just as much to do with the archetier as it is the luthier?

... and string technology, maybe?
 
True, all these things matter.
I don't know how the test was conducted, but in the name of fairness, I hope they didn't slap on a
set of Dominants on the Strad. :)
(The playing wasn't top notch either.)

So I"ve been told , Stradivarius died very poor, which struck me as odd for someone always "on the fiddle".
