This is exactly what i use. Although mine is solid beech worktop.
Never had a problem with it at all. Although i did put it through a speed sander when i bought it to make sure it was dead flat. Ha ... |

it reacts beautifully to heat, I always thought that pyrography would be worth a try with Purpleheart, then maybe a uv blocking varnish might work to freeze the effect at the required point
