non supporting wall

i want to remove a breezeblock wall
but leave the top layer behind..saves mending the ceiling
the wall has a door opening\casement and i assume that it is holding up the top course above it
the wall to the right of it is floor to ceiling i want to remove leaving top layer
wall is about 6' wide include door opening so the bit i remove is only 3' wide

how do i stop top layer dropping please?

you will have to put a supporting beam to hold up the blocks. Easier to take it all out and fix the ceiling

Take it all down, it will surely be easier to patch the ceiling than install a lintle and then replaster it all, it will all fall apart anyway when you remove the rest of the wall.

Take out the lot and put in a dummy arch to hide any differences between the two ceilings?

had a result

knocked plaster off to find a 2 x 5 all the way across above the casement (wooden lintel)
it was buried in wall only one end unfortunately
i took out the breezeblock at end that wasnt buried in wall and screwed a batten in place under lintel (temporary)
I will support with a 2 x 4 down to ground level

no ceiling repair is a good result for me and i dont need the extra height

I'd be very surprised if the two ceilings are matched for level, and are not stepped.
As You will have to plaster and make good both walls, finish the ceiling, but if it's "stepped"
Maybe put a timber or battens to make a downstand and keep the two apart, if this is the case.
