I am putting together a table of timber yards, with information from members who have actually visited the yards. Can you PLEASE HELP with information about Ocean Hardwood (Carrickfergus) for timber/blanks?

(To VIEW the full list of yards click here)

(To ADD a new yard/s please post here after checking that it is not already in the table.)

Are they hobby friendly?

Can you self-select or is it by appointment?

Will they deliver?

Do they have online ordering?

Are prices displayed at the yard?

Do they sell domestic hardwoods?

Do they sell other hardwoods?

Do they sell softwoods?

Do they sell manufactured boards?

Do they sell turning blanks?

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard?

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle?

Do you have any comments?

Thanks for your help,
Neil

I'll write here about my excellent experience with Ocean Hardwood:

Are they hobby friendly? Absolutely yes

Can you self-select or is it by appointment? You can self-select if you want. Because of covid now everything is by appointment, so I guess it doesn't matter anymore.

Will they deliver? Yes (at least from Carrick to Belfast)

Do they have online ordering? No

Are prices displayed at the yard? No

Do they sell domestic hardwoods? Do not know

Do they sell other hardwoods? Yes

Do they sell softwoods? Yes

Do they sell manufactured boards? Yes (both mdf and sw/hw plywood)

Do they sell turning blanks? Do not know

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard? Medium yard

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle? Yes, but book the cutting service in advance

Do you have any comments? Stuart is very friendly, even with a beginner like me, and willing to explain. Great delivery service, very professional.

Small PS: their lumberyard is in Carrick in one part of the Abbey Upholstery building. Even though the main building of the upholstery has been burnt to a crisp a month ago or so, they're still open. Their side of the building is still intact, and the machinery to cut the wood is still operational. My experience was a few months ago before the fire, but I spoke with Stuart and he confirmed what I said above.
