Richard, you're not terribly well-off for these sorts of woods, are you? You can buy a limited range from a few suppliers over here. Prices are a bit eye-watering, but justifiable for small, 'valuable' projects like this. 'Ringed' Gidgee is one of my favorites, the fine fiddleback figure gives plenty of 'pattern repeat' over small areas. It's hard & dense, but workable, and polishes up very well. This is a set of tools I made from a rather nice largish chunk that fell into my hands a few years ago:

Lovely set. Too nice to use really. That wood is spectacular. It'd make great knife handles too. Unfortunately I have to buy imported hard woods. The local ones have very little colour. Ah well.
