I was given some old planes mostly not of much use however I decided to clean this one up as it looks quite a decent one, I cleaned off years of black oily grime with vinegar and gave it a good polish, I soaked the rusty blade in vinegar too, amazingly after many years in a damp garage the blade was still really sharp!

It's about 22" long and really heavy, The maker is W Greenslade of Bristol and Has the word Exhibition Medal stamped on it alongside the name, hidden under the blade the date 1905 is marked in.

I cleaned it up as I don't like seeing things going to waste but thought I might just give it a try out before putting it away, I haven't used a wood plane for over 40 years but I was frankly amazed at how good it was, it gives a lovely long cut with a really satisfying swish!

The more you use it, the better its fit will be (if it's not already perfect).

I'm a fan of the type, too.
