Hi

During May and June I will be offering four three hour taster sessions in marquetry completely FREE. During the sessions we will make a classical parterae inlay like this:

Making will involve sand shading, cutting and manipulating veneer and inlaying into a background.

For the June sessions we also have contemporary marquetry artist , Christine Meyer-Eaglestone http://www.cme-art.co.uk/, demonstrating her radical approach to the craft.

More details on http://www.christribe.co.uk/

Thanks for the lesson on the parterae Chris. Was a really good day learning how to go about such a thing. I don't get to do this sort of thing in my day job and it helped my widen my skills. Cheers.

The show room has some really stunning pieces of furniture, and is worth a trip if your in the area.

Christine's talk was also excellent, and since there was only 3 of us there, i could keep asking questions about how she goes about her marquetry work.

Here's my effort, not too bad for a first go i think.

" Not bad !!! " I think you achieved a very passable standard, well done, just need to do enough copies to form a set to decorate the next cabinet.

Hi Sean

I've only just come back to the forum after a break so only just spotted your posting. Thanks for the kind words. It was a bit of a hectic day for me as we had 11 participants instead of the 8 I planned for.

I was also impressed with Christines demonstration. Particulalrty the speed and accuracy she worked at. If anyone wants to see her work go to http://www.cme-art.co.uk/. Christine is currently working on the marquetry for a sideboard we will be making for the Celebration of Craft and Design in August. I'm a little worried about cutting out her panels after seeing the accuracy she works to!
