    TYZACK Backsaw Heresy?

Yes, I have the same trouble, much worse since my cataract surgeries. I now can't see anything within six feet in focus, so I bought some magnifying headsets, but they are difficult to use at best. You have to get really close to the teeth for them to be in focus. If you deviate from the...

    TYZACK Backsaw Heresy?

Sad... sorry to hear that... truly a great loss. I am sure it happens often.

    TYZACK Backsaw Heresy?

Thanks Jacob. I have a second saw set that I ground the "hammer" (I was incorrectly referring to the hammer as the "anvil" prior, sorry) to a finer point to use on one of my dovetail saws with 20 TPI (still a very difficult saw to sharpen and set!). I will try that on the Tyzack plate to see...

    TYZACK Backsaw Heresy?

Nice rack! I zoomed-in... looks like all the teeth on the racked saws are sharp! :) Being an emigrant, and having both my grandfathers die when I was young, I never inherited any of their tools. I miss that pride in familial ownership that comes to many. Best wishes!

    TYZACK Backsaw Heresy?

Hello Jacob, Thanks for your reply. I am curious to know how you adjusted the setter to achieve the desired results. Did you reduce the amount of set? I tried simply reducing the set but they still snapped. Did you have to modify the anvil on the setter?

    TYZACK Backsaw Heresy?

Hello Spanner48 and Bosshog16, The four coils of 6 inch tempered shim stock/spring steel have have unrolled dead straight. I was amazed when I found this property of the spring steel to stay straight. The temper is good for saw plates, in my limited experience. Look for something like this...

    TYZACK Backsaw Heresy?

Hello Bosshogg16, I just read your post, but I am not sure what you are looking for. In any case, I am in the USA, so again, the postage would probably be prohibitive. If you can post a pic of what you need, we might be able to work something out, especially of you were willing to cut the...

    TYZACK Backsaw Heresy?

Hello Spanner48, Thank you for the data on my saw. It is very much appreciated. I know little of these saws and love to learn about the specs! I measured the saw plate at various locations with a good pair of dial calipers and found it to be consistently 0.027 inches thick (I have some...

    TYZACK Backsaw Heresy?

Greetings Brothers, I have recently been in the process of restoring several of my older backsaws. The one in question here is a generally nice but somewhat neglected TYZACK with a brass back (upper saw in image). In the process of restoration, I dismantled it, cleaned it up, and...

A fine story... and a fine gate... together they form a worthy compliment. The gate is very impressive; simple yet elegant, and formidable I wager! Best wishes...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Sorry for late reply. My ISP was down (again)... Bloody hell! I am changing to STARLINK! Where was I? Oh yes... I admire your resourcefulness in turning a door into a vise! Very clever! Well done. I also agree that there is a place for older technology. Sometimes, it just works...
